Pet Bandannas and Jackets

Description: Create a pet bandanna that fits nicely over their collar so that it doesn’t fall off. Decorate with trims or embroidery! This bandanna was part of a sewalong to donate to animal shelters Australia wide
Material: Cotton
Pattern: Echidna Sewing free pattern

So I haven’t  been as active lately on my blog because I’ve been writing up some exciting posts for Echidna Sewing including monthly sewalongs, sewing and or embroidery projects and some ScanNCut projects! Here is a pet bandanna that I created for the July sewalong for the Animal Welfare League Australia.

My little girl Bella is now ten years old, so she’s going a little bit grey. Plus, she had only just had a big operation, which had me very worried. Luckily she bounced back and is a completely different pug and more energetic than ever! So I’m sure she was thrilled to be my little model for the day.

I wanted to include a few different variations such as the trims and the embroidery to show how creative you can be with a basic, simple pattern. I’ve been loving having my own embroidery machine to come up with different designs for each project.

I also just get so obsessed with making things for the pugs. Here are some jackets that I made them with some really warm sweatshirt material using the Echidna Sewing free jacket pattern from the last July sewalong.

They make me laugh so much, I love them!!

Tropical Jackets

My friends at work got wind of my pet coat creations, so I decided to make their puppies a tropical version, appliqueing the name on one and embroidering the other one with some dog themed embroidery designs from Urban Threads.

I hope you enjoy!

Looking forward to showing you even more of my latest creations!

Simplicity Pug Jumpers

Description: Make your precious pup stand out from the crowd with these dog jumpers.
Pattern: Simplicity 3939 Dog Jacket
Fabric Used: Fleece or sweatshirt knit, plus ribbing knit

Over the years I’ve made the pugs a number of jumpers but the pattern I have always gone back to because it fits them perfectly and don’t overheat them, is the Simplicity 3939 (Option C) jumper. It’s perfect for the cold (but not so cold) months that we have here in Brisbane, Australia.

Below is a few versions I made back when they were younger. I even appliqued the letter ‘B’ on them for ‘Busta’ and ‘Bella’.

I’ve been house sitting my parents place for the last couple of months while they’re away overseas, so they’ve been running around like crazy with my parents dog, Kaya. He seems to always wriggle his way out of his (purchased) jacket though (lol), so the pugs get the benefit of staying in them all night long.

The best thing to do is to measure your dog from its neck to its tail to ensure that you have the perfect fit. Just extend or shorten the length and I guarantee you, it will be their best snuggle jumper, all winter long!

Free Dog Jacket Pattern!

If you’re after a really great free dog pattern you can also download the Echidna Sewing July Charity Dog Jacket Pattern to make for the Animal Welfare League Australia.  I’ve made a couple of tester patterns below and as long as you measure the waist band to fit your dogs chest, it’s perfect. This pattern also comes in a range of different size, so why not check it out!

Happy Sewing!
