Blueprint Toys – Sew Desu Ne

I found this designer on Craftsy, which is now called BluePrint and unfortunately it’s super quite hard to find independent pattern designers like this Sew Desu Nu. So instead I’m recommending you to go straight to her blog – Choly Knight.

Designer – Sew Desu Ne

She has the most gorgeous makes with a huge number of free patterns as well as the affordable patterns in her store. I’ve only made one of her toys but so far I’m really impressed. Her patterns are really well written with step-by-step picture diagrams, which is perfect for any beginner sewer. Plus, they’re absolutely adorable!!

Bat Plush Toy

This is an example of her Bat Plush Toy that I attempted and absolutely love!

I’ve never really made toys before so I would consider myself a beginner in this field. The brown bat I accidentally put the ears on the wrong way but gosh, he’s still so cutie patoodie!

If you have kids or friends you can create or give these to, I highly recommend going over to Choly Knight’s blog and checking these out.

Bali Beach Bag and Holiday!

Description: Beach bag featuring a fold over zipper opening and has a handy front pocket, a large back pocket, shoulder length straps, and a large divided inner pocket.
Material: Denim and Tropical Cotton Sateen
Pattern: The Senna Tote Bag

I recently went to Bali and the whole idea was to get some surf lessons, while having a tropical beach holiday of course! Unfortunately the week before we went there was an offshore cyclone and the waves ended up being 14ft! Way too big to learn in. However, I still made myself a brand new tote bag to take with me to the beach and poolside.

I adore this pattern and have already created it twice now! There are so many fabric variations to create this bag, creating a unique look for each one.

Click on the pictures below to click through to the page blog posts.

One of the main things that I love about this bag is how much you can fit inside it. I could probably fit a change of clothes, two towels, plus all of my accessories. It’s the perfect travel beach bag and because it’s made with lightweight fabric it was very easy to fold up and pack in my suitcase.

As you can see I used my NV180 Sewing and Embroidery machine to add a Beach Please Urban Threads embroidery design to the pocket.

Then to finish it off, I added some snap buttons to the inside and external pockets. These snap machines are amazing, if you’re considering one for use with your sewing projects I highly recommend.

Holiday Snaps

Bali was such an incredible getaway and the perfect escape during winter. Not too far away, amazing beaches, affordable and great food.

I got myself a brand new mirror-less camera but as you can see it was just way too easy to take beautiful photos.

One of the funniest parts of the holiday was having two surfers Googling fabric stores to take me to in between the surf breaks. They picked Alto Moda in Kuta. It was even funnier when they helped me scour five levels of the store to find my favourite fabric types (cotton, suiting fabric and a thick knit), since it was mostly Balinese style chiffon.

I was able to get 10 meters of high quality fabric for less than $70. Definitely worth the trip!! Even better because I could stash it all in the surfboard bags on the way home (hehe).

Now we’re just looking forward to the next holiday… sailing the Whitsundays!!

Box Zipper Bag Make-up Bags

Description: Easy Zipper Box Bag Tutorial is the perfect size travel, accessory or make-up bag.
Material: Cotton Blends
Pattern: Easy Zipper Box Bag Tutorial

These bags would have to be my favourite travel, accessory or make-up bags due to the size and shape of them. They fit so much inside without being too large or bulky.

You can also make them with any type of material. I find they best work with 1 layer of interfacing attached to the lining. For a waterproof makeup or travel bag you could also use a plastic lining.

They feature two tabs on either side of the zipper if you want to put an attachment ring to them.

For only a few dollars each bag, these are the perfect gift or accessory for your travel needs! Plus, the pattern is free and take very little time and effort to make.

Hibiscus Pencil Case

I thought I would start the year off by making something really quick and easy to compliment my Christmas presents. I have been learning to surf so I got a small pack of surf accessories to go with my brand new board. So I decided to make a summer themed pencil case to fit all of my accessories. These pencil cases are perfect for so many occasions, especially for kids going back to school.

I found the pattern from the Craftsy Boxie Pouch but instead of doing the boxed edges I just sewed it straight to make a standard pencil case.

I ended up using my 100% cottom hibiscus fabric that I got from Hawaii, as well as my pink flamingo and cactus print from Spotlight.

There are so many awesome designs like this on Crafty that you can actually download for free. Here are some of my favourite designs.

Craftsy Senna Tote Beach Bag

After I made my first beach Senna Tote (Senna Tote Bag) I was thrilled and wanted to make it again in this awesome fabric I got from Spoonflower. I always wash my fabric first and noticed that it did fade a tiny bit but it still looks effective.

I ended up using snaps on every pocket this time, including the ones inside the bag. After using this bag quite a lot at the beach I realised I needed a smaller bag to hold all of my sunscreen, phone, wallet, etc as sand gets inside. Therefore, my next project will be the Craftsy No Guts Boxie Pouch in the same material.

This pattern is great and perfect to use for the beach or as an overnight bag. It’s really simple to make and only takes a couple of hours. Plus, you’ll want to test it out and when beaches looks this incredible how can you not spend your weekends there!

Gold Coast Beach – Bring on Australia Day!

Craftsy Senna Tote Bag

If you’re looking for a great bag to take to the beach with you this summer, I would highly recommend the Senna Tote Bag! I made a test bag using some material I had in my stash but then ended up loving it. However, I still plan on making a new one so I have a a couple of bags to choose from.

My Beach Senna Tote Bag

This size of this bag is perfect to fit your towel, wallet, phone, sunscreen and even your spare clothes! I was also considering going to Cotton On and getting one of those cushion beach pillows.

This is one of the first bags that I’ve made and I’m really happy. I lined the bottom cream material with some quilt wadding so that it sits up nicely. The rest was lined with a really lightweight interfacing so the top stays floppy.

Thankfully we have some of the most amazing beaches in the world so I’ve already tested out this cute little bag out a few times! Here is photo below of a beautiful sunny day on the Gold Coast 🙂 Just to make you all jelly (hehe).
